إن القرآن الكريم هو كلام الله المنزل على سيدنا محمد عليه الصلاة والسلام المتعبد بتلاوته، والمنقول إلينا بالتواتر، المبدوء بسورة الفاتحة المختوم بسورة الناس.
فإن عدد أجزاء القرآن الكريم ثلاثون جزءاً.
وعدد سور القرآن الكريم 114سورة
عدد آيات القرآن الكريم 6236 آية
كما أن أطول سورة في القرآن الكريم سورة البقرة
وتعتبر سورة الكوثر هي أقصر سورة في القرآن الكريم
أما أطول آية في القرآن الكريم آية الدين، وهي الآية 282من سورة البقرة
فإن لسورة الفاتحة أكثر من عشرين اسماً: لم يرد في السنة من ذلك سوى أربعة :
فاتحة الكتاب ، أم القرآن ، السبع المثاني ، أم الكتاب
وقيل أيضاً أن البسملة الآية السابعة من آيات سورة الفاتحة ، وإلى ذلك ذهب الشافعي ، فأوجب قراءتها في الصلاة ، والقول الراجح أن البسملة ليست آية.
أما السور المكية فهي التي نزلت قبل الهجرة إلى المدينة ، وأغلبها يدور على بيان العقيدة وتقريرها والاحتجاج لها وضرب الأمثال لبيانها وتثبيتها أما السور المدنية فهي التي نزلت بعد الهجرة ويكثر فيها ذكر التشريع وبيان الأحكام من حلال وحرام.
أما من أعظم السور في القرآن الكريم فهي سورة الفتاتحة.
وأن أعظم آية في القرآن الكريم هي آية الكرسي في سورة البقرة.
نأتي الآن إلى عدد السور المفتتحة بالحروف المقطعة تسع وعشرون سوره أولها البقرة وآخرها القلم ، ومنها الأحادية مثل : ص ، ق ، ن ، ومنها الثنائية مثل : طه ، يس ، حم ومنها الثلاثية والرباعية والخماسية . ولم يثبت في تفسيرها عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم شيء . وكونها من المتشابه الذي استأثر الله تعالى بعلمه أقرب إلى الصواب ، لذا يقال فيها : الله أعلم بمراده بذلك.

ونزل القرآن الكريم في ثلاث وعشرين سنة.

ذكر الإمام ابن القيم - رحمه الله - في كتاب [ الفوائد ] خمسة أنواع من هجر القرآن الكريم، نسأل الله - سبحانه وتعالى - إبعادنا عنها وهي :
هجر سماعه والإيمان به والاصغاء إليه .
هجر العمل به ، والوقوف عند حلاله وحرامه وإن قرأه وآمن به .
هجر تحكيمه والتحاكم إليه في أصول الدين وفروعه ، واعتقاد أنه لا يفيد اليقين ، وأن أدلته لفظيه لا تحصل العلم .
هجر تدبره ، وتفهمه ، ومعرفة ما أراد المتكلم به منه .
هجر الاستشفاء والتداوي به في جميع أمراض القلوب وأدوائها ، فيطلب شفاء دائه من غيره ، ويهجر التداوي به ، وكل هذا داخل قوله [ وقال الرسول يارب إن قومي اتخذوا هذا القرآن مهجورا ] الفرقان آية [ 30 ] وإن كان بعض الهجر أهون من بعض.

أبو بكر الصديق رضي الله عنه هو من أمر بجمع القرآن الكريم بعد وفاة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم.

سورة يس : ( قلب القرآن) - (من قرأها في ليلة ابتغاء وجه الله عز وجل غفر له وهي تمنع عطش يوم القيامة )
سورة الواقعة : (من قرأها كل ليلة لم تصبه فاقة ابداً)
سورة الدخان : ( من قرأها في ليلة أصبح يستغفر له سبعون الف ملك ) - ( من قرأ حم
